In some cases, you may need to hide a section of a page from public view while you are working on it. You can use the module permissions to do this.

Normal settings

By default the module will be set to use the same roles/permissions as the page itself. You should see the “inherit view permissions from Page” box checked.

Hiding a Module from Public View

The first step is to make sure you can edit your module even after it is hidden from most users. To do this, go into the module settings and look for the dropdown “Filter by Role”. Select “All Roles.”

Next, you’ll use the second dropdown menu section, “Select Role”, to add your editing role to this module.

If you don’t know what role is associated with your username, it is usually the name of your department.

Your settings should look like this:

Finally, uncheck “Inherit view permissions from Page.” This will allow you to remove the ability for regular users to see a section, but ensure you can still edit the section yourself.

Your module should look like this:

Click “update” to complete.

Unhiding a Section

If a section is hidden and should be visible, in most cases the process is as simple as going into the module settings and clicking the checkbox for “inherit view permissions from Page.”

If this does not work, please contact a site admin because there may be an issue with the page permissions or a role itself, and may require more attention and support.
