We as website owners and content creators need to be as flexible and accommodating to our users as possible if we want them to read the content we are giving them.

Separating text from image allows both the text and image to be responsive and accessible.

When creating an image for an article and sharing on social media please be sure to design appropriate variations of the image that will result in the desired visual experience within its intended environment.

  • If possible, DO NOT include text on images other than logos or brand-related visuals.

  • Images with text are bad for accessibility

  • An image does not have machine readable content, so screen readers need to rely on the image’s alt text in the code to completely and accurately describe the image

Social media images:

  • If text needs to be included on an images, be sure to also include alt text description for accessibility purposes. An image’s alt text would have to convey both the text in the image as well as the content of the image itself.

Easy DNN News (EDN) Article images

Our website currently uses an automated news module which scales images according to placement across http://cda.org. This scaling causes any image with text or important information in the design to potentially be cut off.

Recommendation for images in articles or resources:

  • Please to not include any important text on article images used in EDN

  • Any text included on an image will likely be cropped or cut off when displayed in thumbnail view. This setting is an EDN module automation which can not be custom programmed at this time.
