Templates, Standards, and Best Practices

Content must meet ADA requirements

CDA cannot publish content that violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Failure to follow the documented publishing rules exposes CDA to lawsuits.

Content must meet usability best practices

There are a number of standards followed on the site that ensure our site is usable. A few key areas include:

Open links in the same browser window

There may be a handful of exceptions to this, such as if a user needs to complete a survey.

Use the existing site structure when adding content

Our sites follow these guidelines:

Dynamic and Reusable Content

Do not copy/paste text manually on multiple pages. This is inefficient and increases risk of inaccurate content. Enter text as an item in Easy DNN News or set a module to appear across multiple pages through settings.

Templated pages and components

Both http://cda.org and http://tdicinsurance.com were built using a design system and templated pages, with reusable components that make content updates more efficient and consistent across pages. Visual components are not just about “look.” They communicate a particular content type, so they should be used consistently and true to their original intent.

Do not use inline styles to “force” a component to do something it was not intended to do.
