Checking for Incoming Links

Removing content can potentially break existing links, so before you remove something it is recommended that you also check incoming links.

1. In Monsido, use the magnifying glass to find your page or document.

2. Let’s say the article I am looking to remove is: https://www.cda.org/Home/Resource-Library/Resources/category/vaccine-overview/the-delta-variant-and-vaccine-effectiveness

In Monsido, paste this link into the search box that comes up after clicking the magnifying glass:

3. If you’ve pasted in the link correctly you should see an info panel appear. Click the “open page details” icon.

4. You should see this view. Select “inventory”.

5. Next, select “incoming links”.

6. On the left side will be all the pages that link to the item you need to remove.

The right side shows the text that is actually linked. So in the first item you would be looking for text that says “FAQ”. Please note that most of the time you will not have this many pages linked to a given item so your job should be much easier!

7. You will need to visit each page listed on the left and either unlink the text leading to the item that will be removed, OR replace with an alternative resource/page link. In many cases there is a newer resource or a more general page that we can instead link to.

After clicking a link in the left column you will reach the page where a link needs to be removed/changed. If you have the Monsido plugin you can use this to also identify the link.

Open the icon with the tools at the bottom of the Monsido panel.

Then turn on the toggle for “links.” Each link on the page will now be highlighted.

Hover over an individual link to see where it leads.

Now you will be able to update any links that would break after removing the resource or article.
